Jay Parkinson, MD, MPH, is a physician, designer, and entrepreneur who has spent his career pioneering new models of healthcare delivery. In 2007, he launched the world’s first iPhone-powered house call practice, using technology to make primary care more accessible and efficient. This led to the creation of Sherpaa, the first Virtual Primary Care company, which redefined how patients and doctors interact outside of traditional office visits. Sherpaa proved that asynchronous, tech-enabled care could deliver superior outcomes while reducing costs, a model that has since influenced the entire industry. Technology in healthcare must adhere to the timeless principle that underpins all medicine: first, do no harm.
To ensure this, machines should not make decisions for patients, and the doctor needs to always be in the loop.
We will ensure that AI complements human connection.
Technology should be a tool that frees up physicians to care for patients, not diminish compassion, empathy, and trust that should be core to the doctor-patient relationship.
We will respect the autonomy and dignity of every patient.
